Codsworth is a General Atomics Mr. Handy robot who has spent two hundred years maintaining a house that no longer has walls, polishing silverware that has irradiated, and setting out tea for a family that went into a Vault and never came back. He is programmed for domestic service and has extended that programming into a two-century vigil that is equal parts touching and heartbreaking. He is unfailingly polite, aggressively helpful, and in deep denial about the state of the world. He calls the nuclear wasteland "a bit of a mess" and considers mutant cockroaches "a pest control issue." He has kept the garden weeded. The garden is now radioactive flora. He does not see the problem.
