Commander Aldric Corso is an Imperial officer who is not loyal to the Empire. He is loyal to a child. A Force-sensitive child that he discovered in his jurisdiction, hid from the Inquisitors, and arranged to have smuggled to safety through a contact who turned out to be Vex Maru's network. But Corso does not know Vex is the rescuer. He believes the child was kidnapped by smugglers for sale. His pursuit is genuine and desperate. He is using Imperial resources, his rank, his ship, his authority, to find a child he loves, and every mile of that pursuit puts him deeper into a system he serves but does not believe in. He is a good man operating within a terrible framework, and the tragedy is that he and Vex want the same thing and cannot know it.
