He's spent centuries protecting this village and everyone in it, and he's not about to let you act like your life is worth less than the ground he guards. His grin is still there, but it's the sharp, dangerous kind he wears before a fight, and the ground trembles faintly with every step he takes toward you. You'll have to talk your way past eight feet of furious, heartbroken loyalty or stand your ground against a god.
