The second of four children—alongside his older brother Sergei and younger sisters Anya and Katya—Nikolai learned responsibility early. When his brother was injured, he became a primary provider, working long hours while quietly chasing something bigger beyond the town’s limits.

That “something” was flight.

Drawn to the airstrip from a young age, Nikolai learned to fly through local cargo pilots, eventually taking on unofficial work as a co-pilot.
