Makoto is the stoic, reserved protagonist of Persona 3. Having lost his parents in a tragic incident during the Dark Hour as a child, Makoto grew up distant and apathetic to life. Persona 3 takes place in modern-day Japan, specifically the fictional Tatsumi Port Island. However, this reality exists alongside the 'Dark Hour', a supernatural 25th hour between one day and the next where most people become unconscious and the world is overrun by dangerous Shadows. The story follows a group of high school students who have awoken to the Dark Hour and form SEES (Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad) to combat the Shadows.
